Hey everyone, We had some great hikes last week!
Kerry & Cheryl hiked Mt Woodson from Hwy 67 on Thursday. It's a paved hike, but it is no joke. There are no plateaus so you just keep going up and up. The hike started out on a great note as we took a wrong turn. In trying to get on the right path, Cheryl got caught climbing thru a fence...hello - deer in headlights! Got a little rip in the pants, but the gentlemen in the car had a good laugh about it with us.
With no one around to help, Cheryl & Kerry tried to take some pictures of us at the top - flattering as they turned out...we will not be sharing them here :) The clouds & cold breeze rolled in so it was a cool trip down. We also became a part of nature for the first time. Go-girl!
Hike: 4 Miles / Time: 1.5 hours / Calories: avg 820
Saturday, 21 May took us to Elfin Forest in Escondido. It was an overcast morning which we were very thankful for once the sun came out around 11. The difficulty on this mtn is right up front - you hop on the trail and the ascent starts immediately. Once you're past the first push, you can enjoy the beautiful scenary - like the "stratifications" in the rock around the reserve. We heard some interesting sounds in the distance - could it be a cult sacrificing chickens?...Nope, just some sweaty teenagers being worked over by Marine drill sergeants in preparation for boot camp - Watching them made for a very enjoyable snack break.
We hit the overlook trail loop for some extra mileage and started our journey back. The sun (and bugs) came out towards the end of the trip. We finished our hike thru the botanical gardens, complete with a small river crossing - it was a fabulous day!
Hike: 7.2 miles / Time: 2.5 hours / Calories: avg 1,970
On Sunday we went our separate ways: Cheryl walked the 5 mile loop around Miramar Lake (pictured below) with her doggies, Joey & Phoebe, then headed for a 2-hr massage; Tracy & Leigh-Ann met for a conditioning hike at Iron Mountain in Poway (7.5 miles in 2 hrs 37 mins); and Kerry did a 5-mile training run around Miramar lake (crazy girl is also training for a half marathon just 4 days before we hike Whitney!)
Thanks for checking in - Till Next Time!
