Well, we've been slacking in updating the blog, but certainly not in our training. Busy lives...busy schedules...blog seems to come last (sorry blog!). But, we've had some great fun over the past couple of weeks and we've added some new photo albums to share the fun with you!
Over the long Memorial Day weekend we had several outings. On Thursday, 26 May, Kerry & Tracy hiked Mt Woodson with a guest hiker, Elizabeth (friend and co-worker).On Friday, Tracy, Cheryl, Leigh-Ann and Leigh-Ann's friend hiked the mountains below Mt McGinty...which also happens to be Leigh-Ann's backyard. The scenary was absolutely beautiful, but will unfortunately dry out once the summer heat rolls in.We also brought along some hiking buddies to help warn us of rattlesnakes! They were only too happy to cool off in the pool after our hike :)Speaking of rattlesnakes, on Saturday 28 May, we did a fabulous hike along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) complete with a stop at the falls in Kitchen Creek. About 5 miles in and juuuust about our turning point, Cheryl came full stop in front of Ricardo the rattlesnake who was not interested in letting us pass. Cheryl did the exact opposite of what you should do when encountering one of nature's most intimidating tiny creatures, she bolted in the opposite direction, screaming for her life. Brave Tracy needed to see lil Ricardo for herself, so she inched closer and was able to provide us with his portrait. We haven't seen another Ricardo since and we're still very happy about that.On Sunday we rested...sort of intentionally. Tracy needed to rest an ankle injury so Kerry and Cheryl were going to do a small hike, but Cheryl went to a BBQ and decided she needed a day of rest too. Luckily it was raining Sun morning so that justified our break.
Monday (Memorial Day) took us to another area of Mission Trails, the super steep Kaay Paay mountain. We needed to flex our butt muscles on this one. But, as with each adventure, we made it through, and had a great time doing it. Oh, and at the end of this hike, Kerry gave Tracy & Cheryl a wonderful gift, the "Go Girl." We suggest you go ahead and google this one for yourself. We haven't tried them out yet, but we're very anxious to.
Over the course of 4 (out of 5) days, we hiked 27 miles for a total of 10 hours, and we burned a total average of 5,000 calories (equivolent to a pound and a half of fat!!)
Tuesday had us back on our weekly stair training, always fun. And at this point we can't remember why, but only Tracy hiked Cowles Mtn last Thursday.
Sunday, 05Jun took us on our longest, most strenuous hike yet...in the fabulous El Capitan mountains. We ambitiously arrived at 6am only to find out the parking lot does not open until 7am. So we killed some time at the local 7-11 and used the restroom at the most interesting cafe in San Diego county. But, once the hike got underway, we had a blast, as usual. Stunning 360 degree views from this summit - if only our pictures could do it justice. We hiked 11 miles in 6 hours and burned just over 1 pound of fat, yep, in 1 day :)
Yesterday we had some more stair training and then went to a "Hike Whitney in a Day" seminar. Today we're heading out for a quick hike on Cowles Mtn after work and tomorrow we're in for another quick hike at Iron Mtn due to our weekend commitments. Sunday we'll journey out on another long hike (location TBD) and enjoy the beautiful SoCal sunshine!
Please check out the added photo albums on the home page to catch a glimpse of the amazing scenary. It will only keep getting better!!
