Hello friends!
While hiking 16+ miles in 2 days is no "light" weekend, we removed some of the intensity of the training, and it made for an interesting difference.
Tracy is still off in lovely Paris, so Kerry and Cheryl brought along 2 guest hikers on Saturday's distance hike, Jessica and Tommy. We did a 12+ mile "loop" in the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. While 12 miles is still a long and tiring hike, the trail lacked the intensity we've grown accustomed to. We knew we'd be hiking a flat trail, we just didn't realize how much we'd miss the climb! But, that's probably a good thing :) Another good point was that, even though there were 2 additional people, none of us could read a map...which made Kerry & Cheryl feel better. We got off the mark a few times, but almost always made it to our anticipated destination. (ok, ok, so we didn't make it to the ruins, but we did enjoy eating our snack under the highway...) We did, however, get to see the Water Fall. Which in this instance, was a very generous term, but enjoyable none the less. There was some nice scenary and a couple of fun water crossings. All in all, we had a good time, but we are looking forward to getting back to the harder work! After 12+ miles in 3.5 hours, we only burned 1700 calories, but we still needed a nice nap afterwards.
On Sunday, Cheryl & Kerry did Mt Woodson from the 67...not the hike we originally planned, but our busy lives sometimes get in the way. It was a quick up and back, 4 miles in about an hour and a half with 750 calories burned.
This upcoming week will include our regular stair training, Thurs hike, and then some very BIG and exciting hikes throughout our 3-day weekend. Not to mention a trip to the San Diego Fair. Whoohooo.
New pictures are posted on the homepage. Thanks for stopping by and we'll chat with you soon!
